Introduction:
- Electrical products classified as Declared Articles must meet certification requirements either by a Type Examination Certification valid for 5 years or Standards Mark Product Certification or obtain a Certificate of Approval from Australian state authority.
- Certification for Non-declared articles is voluntary.
- Energy efficiency labeling or minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) apply on chosen types of domestic appliances and commercial/industrial equipment.
- Many appliances available in New Zealand are the same as those sold in Australia. Such appliances will, in many cases, have been approved by the Australian State Regulators. Such appliances, provided they are also marked for use at 230 V, will generally be acceptable for use is New Zealand.
